Safety and Security Film for Government, Pharmaceuticals and Petrochemical use
Personal safety is the top priority for GSA leased office space. Glass is the weakest link within the building envelope and flying glass shards are the single greatest source of injury and death. Campbell Window Film has many years of experience providing the highest level of glass security. A highly trained and factory certified salesperson is available to meet with you to discuss the best security film options for your building. We are proud to serve Los Angeles, Newport Beach, Orange County, Huntington Beach, Irvine and surrounding areas.
The US General Services Administration, GSA, has continued to upgrade the mandate requirements regarding glass and shatter resistance. Meeting the government requirements for personal safety may require upgrading existing glass. Whether the glass breaks due to forced entry, seismic activity or bomb blast, minimizing the flight path of the glass will minimize the danger to human life. The GSA has set forth standards regarding window film application and attachment systems. When applied correctly by a certified installation team, Safety and Security Window Film will minimize flying glass shards in blast situations. WINGARD – WINdow Glazing Analysis Response and Design is a computer program available from the GSA (www.gsa.gov). This program is the GSA and ISC standard for the analysis and design of windows subjected to blast loads.
For a basic understanding, please refer to the graph listed below along with the definitions of each level of protection.
| Performance Condition |
Protection Level | Hazard Level | Description of Window Glazing Response |
| 1 | SAFE | NONE | Glazing does not break. No visible damage to glazing or frame. |
| 2 | VERY HIGH | NONE | Glazing cracks but is retained by the frame. Dusting or very small fragments near sill or on floor acceptable. |
| 3A | HIGH | VERY LOW | Glazing cracks. Fragments enter space and land on floor no further than 3.3 ft. from the window. |
| 3B | HIGH | LOW | Glazing cracks. Fragments enter space and land on floor no further than 10 ft. from the window. |
| 4 | MEDIUM | MEDIUM | Glazing cracks. Fragments enter space and land on floor and impact a vertical witness panel at a distance of no more than 10 ft. from the window at a height no greater than 2 ft. above the floor. |
| 5 | LOW | HIGH | Glazing cracks and window system fails catastrophically. Fragments enter space impacting a vertical witness panel at a distance of no more than 10 ft. from the window at a height greater than 2 ft. above the floor. |
In the United States we have daily occurrences of blast. This information is collected and analyzed by the U.S. Bomb Data Center (USBDC). Its purpose is to collect data and to provide investigators with analytical products to assist in the investigation of the criminal misuse of explosives and acts of arson. According to findings, from 2004 to 2006 there were over 10,000 total explosive incidents in the United States. Within that number, over 1,500 of those incidents were actual bomb incidents that lead to over 500 injuries and 68 fatalities. For more information go to www.atf.gov
